"Living In the Afterlife"-Eric Hutchinson

Do you ever fantasize about being something different than what you are? Do you feel upset about the way you’re living your life and want to do something about it? Eric Hutchinson gives some great advice in his song “Living In The Afterlife”. “And say goodbye to the old you/ Now you’re living in the afterlife” (Hutchinson). Hutchinson also says, “Life gets lost inside itself/ Flash back now as someone else/ Playback your life in the blink of an eye/ Is this what you were suppose to be like/ Take a picture/ Take a picture of yourself” (Hutchinson).  Hutchinson stresses the importance of the fact that you don’t ever have to settle with who you are if you want to be someone else.

"Man In The Mirror"-Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson gives some life-changing advice in his song, “Man In The Mirror.” I’m starting with the man in the mirror/ I’m asking him to change his ways/ And no message could have been any clearer/ If you wanna make the world a better place/ Take a look at yourself and then make a change”(Jackson). Jackson reminds us that no matter where we are in our lives, we can all make a difference in the world by making the positive changes in our lives.

"Chasing Pavements"-Adele

Adele brings up an interesting question in her song, “Chasing Pavements”, that I think everyone struggles with in their lives. “Should I give up or should I just keep chasing pavements/ Even if it leads nowhere? / Or would it be a waste even if I knew my place/ Should I leave it there?”(Adele). Should someone give up their dreams just because it may be unrealistic or is it better to pursue dreams no matter what?

"Living In The Moment"-Jason Mraz

How much time do waste you waste worrying? What good does it do anyway? In Jason Mraz’s song, “Living In The Moment”, he states, “I will not waste my days/ Making up all kinds of ways/ To worry about some things/ That will not happen to me” (Mraz). We are only on this earth for a limited time and it’s important for us to not waste our time. Most of the time the worrying is the worst part of the situation, which makes it seem pointless when it’s all said and done.

"Lesson Learned (featuring John Mayer)"-Alicia Keys

For anyone who has gone through a tough break-up, Alicia Keys gives some much needed support in her song, “Lesson Learned (featuring John Mayer).” Alicia gives an intriguing perspective on break-ups when she says, “Yes I was burned, but I called it a lesson learned” (Keys).  This song reinforces the idea that things are going to happen that are tough to deal with, but it’s how you react that’s important. Every situation that we come across in life makes us feel a certain way, but it’s important to think about how we can learn from the experience.

"Perfectly Lonely"-John Mayer

Have you ever been really bummed out about not having a girlfriend or boyfriend? Sometimes we get really depressed when we don’t think that we have anybody there to give us this since of comfort and joy. It’s in times like these where we need to change our way of thinking totally. In John Mayer’s song, “Perfectly Lonely”, he says, “Nothing to do, nowhere to be/ A simple little kind of free/ Nothing to do, no one to be/ Is it really hard to see why/ I’m perfectly lonely”(Mayer). Even though everyone yearns to have companionship, who says we can’t have a good time until that time comes?

"Unwritten"-Natasha Bedingfield

Have you ever been at a standstill in your life, unsure that what you’re doing in your life is what you really want to? Maybe the past has forced you to settle or made you give up on all hope for the future. Whenever I have thoughts like these, I always turn to music. Natasha Bedingfeild’s song, “Unwritten”, provides not only an uplifting feeling but substantial lyrics that can provide much meaning. “Drench yourself in words unspoken/ Live your life with arms wide open/ Today is where your book begins/ The rest is still unwritten”(Bedingfield). This song reminds us that we have our whole lives to live and that our future is whatever we make it. We, as humans, have the ability to choose and write in another future if we want.
